The close ratio 6-speed in my buddies STi, not a problem. I've put litterally millions of miles on all sorts of gearboxes, and have never had motor issue due to starting out in 2nd gear. WebOn a flat or downhill there is no problem. It's not bad for the bike. Technically, everything is "bad" for the bike in that everything causes wear. Starting in 2nd happens to cause slightly more wear on the clutchplates (maintenance items anyway, IMO, albeit long-lived). That said, on a small bike, 2nd isn't far from 1st anyway.
